Oakdale Family's Home Destroyed By Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An Oakdale family is staying with relatives after a fire damaged their home late Monday night.

Firefighters were called to a home on the 5400 block of Golfview Avenue around 10:30 p.m.

Crews said the fire caused extensive damage to the home and it spread into the attic.

Firefighters know the fire started in the back of the house, but aren't sure if it started in the deck area or one of the back walls.

Whipping winds caused some concerns, but fire crews got it contained before it spread to any other houses.

"It sounds like pretty extensive damage to the back of the structure here -- a portion of the roof collapsed, fire got up into the attic," said Chief Jeff Anderson of the Oakdale Fire Dept. "We were fighting the wind from the beginning."

Firefighters from North St. Paul, Maplewood and Mahtomedi also helped get this fire out.

Investigators aren't sure what started the fire.
