Duluth Police Officer Cleared In Shooting

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- The St. Louis County Attorney's office says a Duluth police officer was justified in shooting a group home resident who allegedly tried to take her partner's gun.

The shooting happened in March when police responded to a fire and assault at a Duluth group home.

Police say a 25-year-old resident hit a staff member over the head with a metal stool and walked around the group home lighting paper on fire.

According to police, the man met officers in front of the home and began assaulting them. Both officers tried to control the situation by using their Tasers. Officer Angela Robertson then fired one shot and hit the man in the stomach, critically injuring him.

The Duluth News Tribune reports Robertson's partner, Officer Steve LaTour, was not hurt.
