Mother, 2 Children Escape Minnetrista House Fire

MINNETRISTA, Minn. (WCCO) -- A mother of two woke up from an afternoon nap to find herself surrounded by smoke and her Minnetrista house on fire.

Mound Assistant Fire Chief Greg Palm said the woman quickly grabbed her children, got out of the burning house and called 911. By the time crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down but it was difficult because the only hydrant was located about 900 feet away from the house.

Investigators are looking into what started the fire.
