MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota’s Trevor Mbakwe will try out for the U.S. junior national team’s entry in the World University Games.

The announcement was made Wednesday.

Mbakwe is one of 22 college players invited to training camp for the 12-member team from July 29 through Aug. 7 in Colorado. The every-other-year World University Games are scheduled for Aug. 13-23 in China, with the official roster to be announced on Aug. 8.

Mbakwe has one year of eligibility left for the Gophers. He led the Big Ten last season with 10.5 rebounds per game and led the conference with 19 double-double games.

Another native of the Twin Cities, Wisconsin’s Jordan Taylor, is also on the tryout list.
