Totino's Italian Kitchen To Close

MOUNDS VIEW, Minn. (WCCO) -- After 60 years of feeding Twin Cities diners, Totino's Italian Kitchen will close its doors for good this Sunday.

Totino's was a Northeast Minneapolis staple for more than 50 years. Rose and Jim Totino opened the restaurant back in 1951. It moved to the Mounds View location back in 2008.

Owner Steve Elwell bought the restaurant from his grandparents back in 1987. He said financial problems are to blame for closing down the restaurant.

Elwell told the Pioneer Press that Totino's food could make a comeback, but it probably won't be in a full-scale restaurant.

The original Totino's building in Northeast Minneapolis still hasn't been sold.
