Floating Docks Are Back At Mpls. Lakes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis is going retro this summer to help people enjoy the warm weather on the city's lakes.

For the first time in 20 years, floating docks will be installed. The first dock was put in Lake Harriet Thursday morning.

Other floating docks will be put in at Nokomis Main Beach and Lake Calhoun's Thomas Beach.

The floating docks will be located outside the swimming areas and will be used for people to swim to and jump from.

Along with floating docks, the city is also easing the rules at the beaches. People will now be allowed to use some inflatable objects in the water.

"We're relaxing the rules. We're trying to make the beaches more fun and make it more available for everyone especially kids to come down to the lake," said Minneapolis Park Board Commissioner Bob Fine.

Also, children will be allowed to swim past the boundaries to reach the new floating docks.
