Charges: Man Cut Wife's Throat, Then Calls Police

DAYTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- Prosecutors have charged a Minnesota man who was arrested last week for allegedly killing his wife.

John Bogema, 49, has been charged with second-degree murder by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

According to the criminal complaint, Bogema cut his wife Georgia's throat at their home in Dayton on June 10.

Dayton Police responded to a call from Bogema around 4:30 a.m. last Friday. He told police he wasn't feeling well. When officers arrived, they asked him why he wasn't feeling well and he told them his wife was dead.

The criminal complaint says when police asked Bogema is he killed his wife, he told them he may have. Police observed blood on Bogema.

Police found Georgia's body in the bedroom under sheets with a large gash near her throat. Investigators also found a bloody knife nearby and bloody clothes in a washing machine.

According to the complaint, Bogema left a message with Georgia's son, prior to calling police, stating "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry ... I'm going back to the mental hospital."

Bogema faces up to 40 years in prison, if convicted.
