Twin Cities Companies Plan To Hire Next 3 Months

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey for Minneapolis and St. Paul found that 20 percent of employers plan to increase current staff levels next quarter.

Prospects are strong in construction, durable and non-durable goods, manufacturing, transportation and retail trade, as well as financial activities.

According to the survey, 73 percent of employers plan to maintain the current levels, while 3 percent of employers are planning to decrease staff levels the next quarter.

Bob Bretwisch, with Manpower, said the number of employers who plan to hire is 7 percent higher than last year.

"They're optimistic, but they are not overly so," he said.

At the Minnesota Workforce Center in South Minneapolis, Jilda Mastery was looking for a new job, while she also tried to start up a new business.

"The day I got laid off, I applied for three jobs. I was very determined not to stay unemployed. That's not the life I wanted. I wanted to make a living and pay my mortgage," she said.

Others said they are frustrated with the job search.

"It's kind of like a roller coaster," said Robin Lewis.

She's been looking for months now and is glad to hear news of hiring.
