Mpls Man Gets 40 Years In Double Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 38-year-old man was sentenced Thursday for killing two men in June of 2005 after a dispute involving money, according to documents filed in Hennepin County District Court.

Carlos Plair Clark will serve 41 years in prison with credit for time already served. He was arrested and charged in July of 2010. Clark was convicted of third-degree murder and second-degree murder in the 2005 shooting deaths of Leroy Kennedy III and Jermaine Heard.

According to a criminal complaint, Minneapolis Police responded to a report of shots fired shortly after midnight on June 9, 2005 in the area of 17th and Fremont Avenues. When officers arrived, they found two shooting victims.

Kennedy had died at the scene, and Heard was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died. Both men died of gunshot wounds.

An investigation revealed that Kennedy owed Heard money for a promotion of a concert, and a dispute happened when the concert didn't happen and the money wasn't paid back. Carlos Clark, also known as Carlos Heard, was Jermaine Heard's brother. He accidentally shot Jermaine Heard and also shot Kennedy.
