It finally feels like summer now that strawberries have arrived at the market. Thanks to innovative farming techniques like high tunneling, we can have strawberries in time for Father’s Day despite the ups and downs in our weather. It’s a pretty cool way to extend the growing season.
If you’re eager to pick strawberries like I am, we don’t have much longer to wait. Most farms plan on opening next week, but it will vary by farm. Check out Pick Your Own.comto find a farm near you and call ahead for specifics.
Want to make a mouth-watering strawberry dessert? I encourage you to make this Spring Strawberry Pie from Cooking Light. It’s a tradition each year in our household and usually involves licking our plates clean. Buying a pre-made graham cracker crust will save you time, but won’t be as crumbly and good as making it yourself.
