Kubel, Span Won't Travel To San Francisco

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Twins say outfielders Jason Kubel and Denard Span will not make the trip with the team to San Francisco next week because of injuries.

Kubel is on the disabled list with a sprained left foot. Trainer Rick McWane says he is still experiencing discomfort in the foot when he runs in the outfield, particularly while making lateral movements.

Span is on the disabled list with a concussion. McWane says the center fielder is gradually improving, but he is not yet ready to resume baseball activities.

Designated hitter Jim Thome's injured oblique is improving and the Twins say he is close to playing in games. Reliever Joe Nathan is scheduled to travel to Rochester on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment.
