Good Jobs Tour Kicks Off In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Congressman Keith Ellison and the rest of the Progressive Caucus launched their "Speak Out for Good Jobs Now Tour" in Minneapolis Saturday.

The congressional listening tour's goal is to listen to the people and help them achieve the American dream.

Ellison said they had a great turnout full of fired up people at their first tour stop Saturday and attendees support the groups three main principals.

"First, in America every worker deserves a good American job.  Second, America should work again for people who work for a living and the third principle is we will use our strength in numbers to counter corporate numbers," Ellison said.

While there are too many unemployed people in the country, Ellison said there is a difference between a job and a "good job."

"My idea of a good job is a job that you can, you know, feed a family of four on. A job that you are can be able to go to doctor if you get sick. A job that you can have something for retirement when you get to be older," Ellison said.

He said the tour is not about placing blame on anyone, it's about setting priorities.

"This is not about hating anybody. It's not anti-corporate, it's not anti- anything. It's pro jobs, it's making sure the American middle class can aspire to the American dream ... It really is an issue of just making jobs the issue that everybody needs to focus on," Ellison said.

The tour currently has stops planned in 12 different cities and continues to grow.
