2 Fires At Vacant Stroh's Brewery

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Fire crews extinguished two separate fires in separate areas of St. Paul's vacant Stroh's Brewery Tuesday evening.

A firefighter also fell 20 feet down an open shaft during the incident, but he was not seriously injured.

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said this is the second time crews have been called to the brewery in the span of a week. The building is boarded up, but trespassers have been breaking in and starting fires with trash or other available materials.

According to Zaccard, the city owns the brewery property and is responsible for putting up fencing to keep trespassers out.

All the recent fires have been fairly small.
