NWS Confirms EF-0 Tornado Hit Blaine, Coon Rapids

BLAINE, Minn. (WCCO) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado damaged parts of Anoka County on Tuesday afternoon.

The EF-0 tornado was confirmed Wednesday, after the NWS storm damage survey team assessed the area.

Numerous funnel clouds were also reported from the storm that prompted several tornado warnings, according to the NWS.

The EF-0 tornado had a path of more than five miles long and its maximum width was about 75 yards. Its wind speeds topped between 70 and 80 miles per hour. They believe the tornado hit between 3:10 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The area that was hit was near the intersection of Highway 10 and Central Avenue in Blaine and headed northwest near the intersection of County Highway 14 and Hanson Boulevard in Coon Rapids.

The NWS reports that the most damage was found near Highway 10 and Pole Street, where a dozen large trees were uprooted near some townhomes.

Officials said possibly a second, brief tornado occurred after the EF-0 near Andover but no damage has been reported.
