Mysterious Headstone Found In St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A passerby in St. Paul spotted something out of the ordinary on Wabasha Street last Sunday. He found a large, marble headstone hiding under a bush. Now police want to know where it came from and how it got there.

Police recovered the headstone on the 300 Block of Wabasha Street.

The headstone read "Marie Olsen - 1879 to 1932". Police said it took two officers to lift the heavy stone.

"We've been in contact with Ramsey County trying to figure out if they have anybody in their record system that would match up with these dates," said St. Paul police spokesman John Keating. "Initially we weren't able to find anybody with that name or those dates."

People with genealogical expertise have contacted St. Paul Police to see how they can help.

"We have people with possible leads," said Keating. "Our priority is getting the headstone back to its rightful place."

Anyone with information is urged to call St. Paul Police at 651-266-5958.
