ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico man who skipped town before he could be sentenced on more than a dozen counts related to child pornography has been captured in Minnesota.
The U.S. Marshals Service says William Cook was arrested in Buffalo, Minn., on Wednesday.
Authorities say Cook failed to appear for his May 23 sentencing after being convicted of 16 counts of sexual exploitation of children, including distribution, manufacturing and possession of child pornography.
Investigators with the Marshals Service, the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office and the Santa Fe County sheriff’s office had learned that Cook fled to Minnesota. Deputies in that state were able to take him into custody.
Cook is now awaiting extradition back to New Mexico.
