Mauer Takes Groundballs At 1st Base In Pregame

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Joe Mauer is still catching for the Minnesota Twins.

But the 2009 American League Most Valuable Player has, at least, begun to take groundballs at first base. Mauer got some work in at that position before Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mauer says he’s willing to play first base from time to time to help the team. He says he still considers himself a catcher.

But with teammate Justin Morneau out for several weeks following neck surgery, the Twins could use first base as a way to keep Mauer’s bat in the lineup when he needs a break from behind the plate.

This move should have been made a long time ago…and it should be a permanent one. I realize he makes a catcher’s salary, but if you can’t keep him healthy working behind the plate, you need him somewhere. And the DH positions are well taken care of. Move him to first, then shuffle the rest of the lineup around him. He is, after all, your franchise player.

Yes this should have been done a long time ago, but we have a good first basemen already. Once Morneau comes back, Mauer should be taking ground balls at 3rd base to prepare for where he will be in the next 2-3 years permanantly.

  3. Trade Mauer says:

I say trade him so we can maybe get in some descent pitching.

Who cares! Sunday I will boo him and hopefully others will join in. Tired of him.

  5. JOHN says:

I THINK THE TRADING OF PLAYERS WILL BEGIN SOON AND CUTTING OF PAYROLLS AS ATTENDANCE DROPS AND ONE GETS THE FEELING THAT JOE WILL LIKE TO BE TRADED AND CUTTY WILL BE SOON AND HOPEFULLY SOMEONE ELSE WILL GA BACK TO JAPAN.
