No Arrests, No Citations In Operation Dry Water

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The U.S. Coast didn't arrest anyone or issue any citations during a focused weekend effort to catch drunken boaters on the St. Croix River.

The Coast Guard collaborated with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Washington County Sheriff's Department Marine Patrol on "Operation Dry Water" Friday through Sunday. The Coast Guard says contact was made with more than 20 boats during the three-day initiative. Six safety warnings were issued and one disabled boat was towed to shore.

Patrols were increased on the river from Hudson, Wis., to Stillwater, Minn., in order to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related accidents. The Coast Guard says boating under the influence is a leading contributing factor in fatal recreational boating accidents.
