Operators Shut Down Prairie Island Unit 1

RED WING, Minn. (AP) — Xcel Energy has shut down Unit 1 of its Prairie Island nuclear plant near Red Wing to fix an oil leak on a turbine valve.

The valve is on the non-nuclear side of the plant. Xcel Energy says no one was hurt and there was no accidental release of radioactive material.

Unit 2 continues to operate at full power.

Xcel Energy says the outage to repair the oil leak is not expected to last long.

Shut down the same day as the state shuts down? Uncanny coincidence.

Why did they report something as stupid and mundane as this article is? The system will need servicing over it’s life span just as a car requires periodic oil changes!

    CBS local is a joke….

The headline makes it sound much more serious than what it actually is. Waste of space.
