View Comments

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 47-year-old man is charged with second-degree assault after allegedly stabbing his son with a knife, following an argument.

According to the criminal complaint, William Thomas Lewis, Sr., of Olivia, told police he got into a fight with his 19-year-old son and stabbed him in the lower abdomen and left arm on Friday.

Police were dispatched to a home on the 800 block of Henton Avenue for a violent assault and was flagged down by Lewis, who was wearing a blood-covered T-shirt.

The criminal complaint states Lewis confronted his son about various issues causing his son and his son’s girlfriend to leave the residence. A short time later, the son returned and began punching his father. At that time, Lewis stabbed his son in the stomach.

The son was transported from Renville County Hospital to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he had surgery to repair the internal bleeding from the stab wound.

I could never live in a small town and deal with small town crimes.

LOL. This kind of stuff is common in the big cities so it never makes the news in Minneapolis or St. Paul. In small towns, it’s the “only news” not to mention, a rarity so it gets a lot more attention.

In the end, crime statistics are the real proof. A brief glance at any crime statistics report will show you that you are much less likely to have crimes comitted in small towns versus large cities.

There’s no cars driving through my small town with music thumping and thugs hanging out the windows intimidating people. No kids getting kidnapped, no random beatings or shootings of people ljust walking down the street.

Yeah it’s real horrible in a small town out away from the thugs, gangsters and those who would just take what is yours for their own.

I fail to see how “thugs” or “gangsters” who, in all honesty, really only target other “thugs” and “gangsters” are any different than hicks or rednecks with shotguns who go after people who are “different” from them.

Honestly, I feel safer in a bigger city. At least someone will hear my yelling as I’m attacked and video cameras will have footage/evidence for prosecution. In a small town I’m guessing mouths shut pretty quick and “no one saw anything.”

        • Beer Guzzling Redneck

No hicks or rednecks with shotguns target anybody in my small town. Nobody is GETTING attacked, so yelling for help is a moot point.

Yo Brian — you don’t seem to get the perps in the TC’s don’t just target other thugs or gangsters. The frickers don’t care who the HE!! they shoot. It’s the sport of the thing as in how much can I do w/o getting busted.
Give me small town America anyday. And I do live in MPLS – but plan on moving back to rural MN as soon as I get a job/chance to do so. 17 years in TC’s and ‘burbs = pure living hell. You folks are totally welcome to every inch of pavement they have. lol

          @Brian:
We feel sorry for you to have such a negative view of the world…
Our rural/small towns are not perfect, but close to it!
You must be referring to some movie depicting the south in the 1930′s…
You should maybe leave the city once in a while and see the world…
or maybe it is better to stay away from our little pieces of heaven!

Born in Redwood Falls, then moved to Delhi….now that’s a hopping town today of maybe 6 ???, then to Belview and then Olivia.
I dig small town life and they don’t, mostly, have the bullchit of a city. So I’m with Les on better lifestyle….but it can be a challenge keeping a kids interest too when the wild teens set in.

  • Charlie Chan

Why not charge the kid too? Seems he was the initial one to assualt the old man so whats good for the goose is good for the baby goosling.
    hang em both

  • Les Johnson

What the hell. Charges will be dropped if son was the instigator. Self defense

    • Fresh Eyes

The son instigated a fist fight. Charges are being pressed because knives aren’t “allowed’ in fist fights. Had the son had a weapon, yeah, charges would have been dropped. He will probably get off anyway, but they had to press charges because of how the fight went down.

  • Lacking a brain some are

“son stabs him after the fight” —- another example of lousy grade school level reporting. Oh well …… bush league is bush league

obviously the son is hospitalized the whole time and never got a chance to tell his side while the father gets to make himself look good
