Drowning, Fatal Accident Reported In Pine County

PINE COUNTY, Minn. (WCCO) – It was a devastating Fourth of July weekend for at least two families in Pine County.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office is investigating a drowning that happened in the Willow River Dam on Monday.

A 46-year-old man was reported missing in the area on Monday. The sheriff's office responded to the scene and said it appeared the man and his brother were swimming near the dam and that one or both of them were swept over by the dam.

Authorities said the man's brother surfaced downstream and he was rescued by family members, but the other man has not been found. The Pine County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota DNR and dive teams searched the dam area and could not find the man.

Authorities said recovery operations resumed on Tuesday.

Authorities also said a 26-year-old Sandstone man was killed in an ATV accident on Sunday. The accident was reported on Bass Lake Road east of Ruble Lane in Pine Lake Township.

The man was found dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said it appears that the driver lost control of the ATV and went into a ditch, where the ATV landed on him. The Pine County Sheriff's Office said the accident remains under investigation.
