ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a St. Paul library worker to 30 days in jail in the theft of 1,400 books and movies, in part through the creation of fake patron accounts.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Ramsey County District Judge Judith Tilsen also ordered 32-year-old Amanda Marie Cortright to perform 200 hours of community service.
The St. Paul woman pleaded guilty April 25 to receiving stolen property. She was sentenced on Friday.
Prosecutors claimed she created four fake accounts and checked out materials under those false names. She allegedly checked out items under her own name then altered library records to cover up that she kept them.
Cortright told the judge she was sorry, adding that, “It just got out of control.”
The stolen materials have been recovered.
