Holocaust Survivor Celebrates 90th Birthday In Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Minn. (WCCO) -- Celebrating a 90th birthday would be special for anybody, but for Margot DeWilde the event has extra meaning.

DeWilde is a Holocaust survivor and a member of the Dutch resistance movement. During WWII, she was arrested by the Nazis and taken to Auschwitz.

Her husband died during their two years at Auschwitz. After the war, DeWilde moved to Minnesota.

"I have always been obstinate," DeWilde said. "In [the Holocaust], the Germans wanted to kill us, but I wouldn't let them kill me."

Obstinacy, she said, is probably the background of her personality.

And on Sunday, her friends threw her a big party in Plymouth.
