NEW ULM, Minn. (WCCO/AP) – Authorities said a New Ulm police officer was driving a city-owned squad car Friday when he got into a collision with another vehicle, killing a 51-year-old man.

The incident happened at about 1:40 p.m. Friday on the 100 block of North Garden Ave. Matthew Rasmussen, a 31-year-old officer with the New Ulm force, hit a vehicle with two occupants, authorities said.

A 51-year-old man died and another person sustained injuries as a result of the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol identified the man as Brian Bruce Wichmann.
