Porn Shop Coming To Uptown Has Neighbors Riled Up

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Some Minneapolis moms are upset about a new porn shop opening on Hennepin Avenue.

The shop, located near the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and 24th Street, is called Hustler Hollywood, and it will sell adult videos and other sexually- oriented merchandise.

Mary Hartnett says she and other neighbors do not want the Hustler Hollywood store in the neighborhood.

At the time of this report, the remodeling of the retail space is almost complete, but there are still no signs that the space will become an outlet for porn.

"On [the Hollywood Hustler] web site they advertise themselves as selling hard core porn," Hartnett said.

Hartnett says the store would be a bad fit for the area, which includes a school and a synagogue.

"It's bringing people into this neighborhood that are interested in hardcore pornography, and we don't want it here. "

Less than a block away, however, is a store called Cockpit Project, which sells products with sexual overtones and caters to gay men.

Scott Larson, who works at Cockpit Project, says that's he's never received complaints about the store from neighbors.

"In fact, we work with our neighbors very well," he said.

As the work continues on Hustler Hollywood, people at the Spyhouse Coffee Shop across the street are keeping an open mind.

Amy Nelson, who works at the coffee shop, says she thinks the store is kind of hilarious.

"We have no idea what to think," she said. "We're right across the street, so we will literally see what happens."

A meeting for people opposed to the Hollywood Hustler store is set to be held at the Common Roots Café on Lyndale Avenue at 8 p.m.
