Severson Posts More Debt Than Cash In Senate Bid

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The sole Republican currently in Minnesota's 2012 U.S. Senate race has more debt than available cash in his first federal fundraising report.

Former state Rep. Dan Severson disclosed Friday that he raised $3,700 for his campaign through June and was carrying $5,000 in debts. Severson, the GOP's nominee for secretary of state last fall, is seeking his party nod to challenge first-term Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

In the most recent fundraising quarter, Klobuchar said she had raised $1.1 million and had three times that amount in the bank.

Other Republicans are mulling 2012 Senate campaigns but none have gone beyond the consideration phase.
