Accused Hibbing Mayor Biter Certified As Adult

HIBBING, Minn. (AP) -- An 18-year-old charged with attempting to rob Hibbing Mayor Rick Cannata, a friend and their wives in May will be tried as an adult.

Thunder Cloud Jose Rodriguez, of Hibbing, was certified as an adult Wednesday in St. Louis County Court. Rodriguez was 17 at the time of the May attack. He is also accused of biting Cannata above his left eye.

The Daily Tribune reports he faces eight criminal charges including four counts of robbery, assault and terroristic threats.

His co-defendant 30-year-old Daniel Jordan Thurstin faces five felonies and has pleaded not guilty.

Another defendant 20-year-old Jeffrey Michael Hoshal is charged with four felonies and has yet to enter a formal plea.
