Officials: Violent Crime Down In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Recent numbers show violent crime is down in Minneapolis.

On Monday morning, Mayor R.T. Rybak and Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan talked about the numbers at a news conference.

In the first six months of 2011, violent crime has fallen close to 15 percent, compared to the same time period in 2010.

According to Dolan, the reason behind the reduced crime is clear.

"I think the biggest reasons for these reductions are the men and women of the Minneapolis Police Department," said Dolan. "When you look at the patterns that we are dealing with -- and we still have plenty of patterns that are out there, issues out there -- they are on them quick. They're proactive. They're aggressive. They're doing what they need to do."

Violent crime has fallen in Minneapolis for six straight years. In 2010, violent crime fell to a 28-year low.
