Xcel Energy Ready For Heat Wave
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Xcel Energy said it's ready to meet the challenge posed by the extended heat wave.
There have been some scattered power outages but Xcel's Tom Hoen said, in general, things are going well.
"We're going to be monitoring closely our generating and transmission capacity to make sure the supply meets the demand, but right now we don't foresee any issues at this time," said Hoen.

While Xcel Energy does not foresee a need to ask customers to conserve, it does recommend taking steps to keep the monthly air conditioning bill down.
One way is for homeowners to program the thermostat while they're away.
"They can save roughly $100 by raising their thermostat from 72 to 78 degrees," Hoen said.
It's also helpful to change the filter often and keep the shades drawn.
