Mother Accused Of Attempting To Strangle Toddler

NORTH ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A mental competency exam has been ordered for a North St. Paul mother accused of trying to strangle her 2-year-old son after jumping in front of several vehicles with him.

Twenty-five-year-old Aneesha Charmaine Toliver appeared in Ramsey County District Court Monday. A criminal complaint accuses Toliver of running in front of a Metro Transit bus last Tuesday while holding her toddler. Witness accounts vary as to whether the two were struck. Authorities say she then ran into the path of a car and another bus, but was not hit.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press  says when police arrived, officers tried to take the child from Toliver, but she squeezed him tightly, then threw the child to the pavement and put her hands around his neck to strangle him. Police say the boy is OK and is in foster care.
