New Gophers Coach Is Torchlight Parade Grand Marshal

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The maroon and gold will be well represented at Wednesday night's CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade through downtown Minneapolis.

New Gophers football coach Jerry Kill is the parade's grand marshal. New University of Minnesota president Eric Kaler and his wife, Karen, also will take part in the parade, part of the annual Minneapolis Aquatennial.

Also joining the parade are 100 members of the University of Minnesota Alumni Marching Band, Goldy Gopher and the U of M Spirit Squad.

Heat and humidity forced the postponement of the LifeTime Fitness Torchlight 5K that was scheduled for Wednesday, but the Torchlight Parade is still set to begin at 8:30 p.m.

The parade runs along Hennepin Avenue, between the Dunwoody College of Technology and Fifth Street. This year's parade will feature 14 bands, dance and cheer squads.
