CLOQUET, Minn. (AP) — A 6-year-old Duluth boy was found unresponsive in a Cloquet swimming pond and later died at a hospital.

Cloquet Police Chief Wade Lamirande tells WDIO-TV the incident happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. at the swimming pond at Pinehurst Park.

The name of the boy has not been released.

Cloquet City Administrator Brian Fritsinger says there were four life guards on duty at the time. He says the beach will remain closed at least through Friday.

4 lifeguards and likely a parent or 2, or a babysitter or someone who was to be caring for the child, all in attendance and yet still drowned?? How very sad… it proves horrible things can happen in an instance when children are involved. There seems to have been an unusual number of drownings this year! My sympathy to the family.
