Mother, Children Rescued From Lake Superior

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A mother and her two young children were rescued from Lake Superior after they were swept away by a rip current.

A 10-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy were playing in the water Wednesday afternoon on Park Point in Duluth and were pulled out about 500 feet from shore. The children's mother went in after them and also got caught in the current.

Police say people on the beach saw the three were having trouble in the water and called 911. One couple grabbed an inner tube and water float and went in after them. They were able to bring the three to shore.

The Duluth News Tribune says paramedics took the three to the hospital.
