Premier Red River Catfish Tournament Canceled
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- The annual Red River catfish tournament in the Grand Forks area has been canceled.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that officials say the river is too high for anglers to safely get on and off the water this month.
The Cats Incredible tournament based out of East Grand Forks, Minn., draws about 300 anglers and thousands of people to the area each summer. Last year, anglers came from as far as Arizona and New York.
Local chamber of commerce President Barry Wilfahrt says it's the first time in the 24-year history of the tournament that it's been canceled.
