Minn. Parents Sentenced For Chaining Child

AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) -- The Dexter parents who pleaded guilty to charges they chained their 5-year-old son to his crib have been sentenced to one year in jail and three years supervised probation.

The Austin Daily Herald reports Judge Donald Rysavy sentenced 33-year-old Brian Miller and 26-year-old Charity Miller on Friday morning.

The Millers were sentenced on one count each of gross misdemeanor false imprisonment and one count each of malicious punishment.

The charges alleged the Millers chained their 5-year-old to his crib from bedtime until morning every night. The boy weighed less than 30 pounds when he and his brother were placed with a foster family in April.

After they were sentenced, Brian Miller said he was sorry. Charity Miller also apologized and said she wanted a second chance to be a good mother.
