MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A woman crossing the street near the Metrodome Thursday night was hit and killed by a semitrailer truck, Minneapolis Police confirmed on Friday.

Police Sgt. Stephen McCarty said at about 7:20 p.m., an officer was located by a witness who told them a vehicle had hit someone crossing the street. It’s unclear what street the woman was crossing, but that the incident happened behind the Metrodome.

The witness gave police a brief description of the truck, McCarty said, and it returned to the scene moments later. Authorities at the scene attempted to save the victim, but they were not successful.

The truck driver was taken to the local police station for question. Tests were also conducted for drugs and alcohol, which is a standard procedure.

The accident remains under investigation and the victim has not yet been identified. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.

I saw her in the road after it happened and my heart goes out to her and her family. I would like to know her name.

How awful. Do they really think they need an autopsy for this one? They’re still not clear what caused her death?
