KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — A Kenosha priest has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to making sexually suggestive phone calls to two teenage girls.

The Rev. Michael Nowak was charged with two misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a telephone. The 58-year-old was convicted Thursday.

A Kenosha News report says Nowak cried and apologized before he was sentenced. He said he knew he violated the trust of his church, his community, the girls and their families.

Prosecutors say he asked out a 17-year-old girl and encouraged her to wear a low-cut shirt. They say he also asked a 14-year-old if he could perform oral sex on her.

No physical contact was alleged.

Nowak could be sentenced to an additional 30 days if he violates his one-year probation.

Yeah, when they don’t get these guys in time, the court case revolves around the grisly discovery of young girls dismembered and in a drainage ditch, or stuffed in an old refrigerator.

Good thing they caught him before he got there. Too bad the sentence is lighter than if he had left his car running at the gas station.

I’m pretty sure the psychological disorder that drives murder and dismemberment is different from the one that causes an immature and undisiplined sex drive.

I don’t think Matthew McConaughey’s character in Dazed and Confused would have progressed in a hacksaw killer if left unchecked.

      1. The Architect says:

I think it’s a bit naive to diagnose him with an immature and undisciplined sex drive when he was soliciting sex acts from 14 year old girls. I don’t call that a lack of discipline. Do you? Are you forced to resist the temptation yourself? Matthew McConaughey’s character in the movie you referenced was a recent HS grad probably 19-21 years old. This priest is 58. Huge, huge difference there.

Dear Architect do you breathe by machine? Are you currently living in a hospice with caretakers, nothing you ever say makes sense, we would laugh at some of your skeletons also, for the record leaving your car running was a $50 fine in minnesota, now clean the fryer, burger king popper.

Anyone who has spent much time around priests as a group knows that this is a strange group of cats. The priesthood attracts a very disproportionate share of oddballs and then forces them to lead an unnatural existence. A lot of them can’t do it. Many of them gamble too much, drink to excess and, yes, act out sexually. The numbers are lots higher than you think. And, yet, families allow them to get close to their kids and vulnerable relatives. Be careful around them. You know not what they do.

I hope he loses his job as well. But, since it’s the Catholic church, I doubt he will. Isn’t it sad that there’s so much doubt that the Catholic church will do anything to punish sexual predators?

    1. James2 says:

Yeah, it would have been a LOT worse if he was. At least is was hetero acts, right? Certainly not something that will be brought out in next summers Anti Gay campaign to change the Constitution.
