GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) – A 25-year-old man from Gheen, Minn., is accused of driving drunk and stealing a fire truck, according to charges filed by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.

Edward Leecy Merle was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and DWI.

At about 4 a.m. Saturday, the Greenwood Township Fire Department was returning to their hall after responding to a fire call and discovered that a truck that was inside the station had been stolen.

The truck was located a short time later by a St. Louis County Sheriff’s deputy traveling in the city of Cook. Police spotted Merle a short time later and arrested him. Authorities said additional charges are pending.
