Rain, Storms Make Things Interesting For Fireworks, U2

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If storms do hit Saturday night, it will make the highly anticipated U2 concert quite interesting.

In all, there are three major outdoor events either just wrapping up or about to begin in Minneapolis. Over 40,000 people were at Saturday afternoon's Twins game, and many stayed downtown for the evening.

A huge turnout is expected for the annual Aquatennial fireworks show Saturday night, and finally, 60,000 fans will pack the TCF Bank Stadium to see the U2 360 Road Tour.

Come rain or shine, those 60,000 fans are determined to see their band. At the time of writing, clouds bringing rain and lightening are northwest of the stadium and are moving northeast. It doesn't appear that the storm clouds will move over the stadium, but nothing is sure.

Many of the fans who lined up outside the stadium days before the show said that they've seen U2 before. However, those fans think that his tour will be something particularly special.

The band has an outdoor amphitheater called the Claw that allows them to play before fans at all angles.

U2 fan Keith Evers said that the Claw could make Saturday's show one of the band's best.

"The 360 degrees is a great thing; you can see all the fans around," he said. "And you're basically singing with everybody and interacting with everybody -- that's why the stage is designed the way it is."

The stadium has a no umbrella policy, so it if starts to rain, fans will have to tough it out.

Rain won't stop U2 from playing. Lightening, however, will.
