2 Dogs Die After Being Left In Car In SE Minnesota

STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (AP) -- Authorities in southeastern Minnesota are investigating after two dogs died of heat exhaustion after being left in a car with the windows up.

The Olmsted County sheriff's office says a 35-year-old Rochester woman took the 6-year-old Yorkshire terriers to Stewartville Friday for a veterinary checkup.

Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Behrns says the woman left the clinic at about 9:30 a.m. to eat at a restaurant. Behrns says the woman put the dogs in the car with the windows up while she was inside the restaurant.

After 2-and-a-half hours later, she called authorities just after noon to say her dogs had died.

The Post-Bulletin reports the case will be referred to the Olmsted County Attorney's office for possible charges.
