Delinquent Tax Bills In Wis. At $759 Million

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Thousands of people or businesses owe Wisconsin a total of $759 million in unpaid state taxes.

Nearly 20,000 names are listed on the state's delinquent tax website. When the state launched the website in 2006, it included only the names of those who owed at least $20,000 in taxes, interest and fees. Two years later, the law was revised lowering that amount to $5,000.

Department of Revenue spokeswoman Stephanie Marquis says those that enter into a payment agreement aren't listed on the site. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports in the fiscal year which ended June 30 the state collected about $17 million in delinquent taxes.
