2 Dead After Plane Crashes In Wis. Lake

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- Fond du Lac County authorities say a small plane has crashed in Lake Winnebago, killing both people aboard.

Sheriff Mylan Fink says the male and female were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Piper Cub went down Monday shortly before noon, about half a mile from shore.

The Federal Aviation Administration initially released an airplane identification number corresponding to a plane registered to Kenneth Wood of Mt. Carmel, Ill. But Wood told The Associated Press his plane didn't go down. He says the ID number mistakenly corresponded to the plane that reported the accident, not the one that crashed.

The FAA later released a new ID number. That plane was registered to Tri Star Aviation Services Inc., based in Wilmington, Del. A number for Tri Star couldn't immediately be found.
