Design Collective may be a small boutique, but it boasts big talent. Created to highlight Minnesota talent, everything found at Design Collective has been created by a local designer.

"I think it's important to support local designers to help get local businesses up and running and established," Jay Nelson, co-manager of Design Collective said. "It's nice to support local people so that they're inclined to support you back."

Nelson, along with business partner Anita Jensen, will take over management at Design Collective and they hope to let people know that their boutique is still open and thriving.

"We want to expose designers to the city and get designers recognized for their work," Nelson said.

Currently over 100 Twin Cities designers sell their work at Design Collective. Men and women's apparel and accessories make up the majority of the boutique, but shoppers can also find funny cards, stationery and other quirky items. There is an application process for new designers, but Design Collective welcomes new talent.

"We prefer to stick with fashion oriented items, but if there's a really cool design aesthetic to a designer's idea then we're open to what they have to show us," Nelson said.

Women can find a variety of dresses, tops, skirts, hats, handbags and jewelry and graphic t-shirts are popular for men. Design Collective sets itself apart by selling apparel and accessories that are unique and are different from what you would find at a department store.

"Hopefully it's [Design Collective] helping people find more exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces," Nelson said. "We're located in Uptown and people have really open minds and don't like to follow the norm, so this is a way for people to find more underground exclusive designs to express themselves."
