Lake Hiawatha Closed To Swimmers
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Lake Hiawatha in south Minneapolis has been closed to swimming because of high bacteria levels.
The beach was closed last week after E. coli levels in the water topped those deemed safe by state guidelines.
The state parks department said Lake Hiawatha is more prone to pollutants than other swimming areas, because Minnehaha Creek runs through part of it, carrying goose droppings and other runoff.
So far, there have been no reports of people being sickened from swimming in the lake.
As soon as levels are back to normal, the lake will be reopened for swimming.
