The “holiday” of the fall — back-to-school time — is already invading our stores and newspaper ads.

It seems like every year Christmas sales are the ones that start earliest, but I’m seeing school sales creep into the mid-summer months earlier and earlier each year.

Turns out it’s not just me who’s noticing it, consumers are too. But, that doesn’t mean their biting … yet.

If you’ve just got to have a nibble of some of those early door-buster sales, I won’t leave you hanging.

But take this advice before you shop: check to see what you’ve got first. Do you really need to buy all those pencils, pens and notebooks or do you have some stashed away from last year?

A reason why the back to school deals are going on now, is because nationally many schools start school mid August, which is just 2 or 3 weeks away. Minnesota is little strange in holding back the school calendar until after Labor Day (even stranger is that the State Fair is the reason). Not that the Minnesota school calendar is bad, but I must add that at the University level, having finals until Christmas Eve can be a major annoyance for out-of-state students and I find it to be quite insensitive to ‘nonnatives’. On the other hand, it was always nice going to the State Fair without having to worry about school work (probably a reason for the large attendance to the state fair).

They ran BTS ads starting at the end of July last year. I’ve no doubt they did the same thing this year. They’ll likely run ads thru the middle of September.
