Wrong-Way Driver In I-94 Fatal Crash Was Legally Drunk

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The driver who went the wrong way down Interstate 94 in Minneapolis and caused a fatal accident on April 20 was legally drunk, according to police records released on Thursday.

Reginald White, 49, had a blood alcohol concentration of .16 at the time of the accident, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Minnesota.

The crashed happened on I-94 at Lowry Avenue in Minneapolis. Police said White left downtown Minneapolis on April 20 and drove north in the southbound lane. His vehicle crashed head-on with another vehicle, killing himself and 21-year-old Jason Norbeck of Maplewood.

White, who had a 2-year-old daughter with his fiancée, was planning to get married this September.

The Minnesota State Patrol said neither driver was wearing a seatbelt during the accident.
