State Patrol: Mother Fell Asleep In Crash That Killed Teen

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol said the mother who was driving a SUV that went off the road, killing her 14-year-old son, fell asleep at the time of the accident.

The crash also left three kids in critical condition. None of the children injured in the crash were wearing seat belts, according to police.

The mother and driver, 43-year-old Pamela Roper, of Hubbardston, Mass., was treated and released at the scene.

Fourteen-year-old Daniel Davis was killed in the crash. Nine-year-old Cedric Davis, 7-year-old Seth Davis and 11-year-old Amena Davis are in critical condition. All are from Hubbardston, Mass.

Seven people total were in the vehicle when it went off the road.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2000 Dodge Durango was heading west on Interstate 90 near the Beaver Creek exit when it went off the road, into the ditch and hit an embankment of the County Road 6 bridge. The accident occurred around 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

The vehicle was sent airborne until the roof hit a pillar of the bridge. The vehicle rolled and came to rest on its wheels.
