2 Men Indicted In Minneapolis Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two men were indicted by a Hennepin County grand jury Thursday on first-degree murder charges in connection with the July 20 murder of Shea Stremcha.

Stremcha, who lived with his fiancée in a home on the 2900 block of 45th Avenue South in Minneapolis, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of July 20 after two men allegedly broke into their home just after 3 a.m.

Semaj Williams, 21 of Brooklyn Park and Robert Emmanuel Shelby, 27 of St. Paul, had previously been charged with second-degree murder and burglary in connection with the incident. Only a grand jury can issue a first-degree murder charge, which carries a life sentence.

Stremcha woke up that morning to the sound of breaking glass as the two men were allegedly breaking in. Stremcha grabbed a knife and went to see what was going on when he was fatally shot in the chest, according to a criminal complaint.

Williams and Shelby are scheduled to make their next court appearance Aug 24.
