Woman Killed After Car Backing Up On County Road Struck

BROWN COUNTY, Minn. (WCCO) -- One woman is dead after the car she was riding was backing up on a county road and was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.

The accident happened around 10:15 a.m. Saturday in Brown County on County Road 29. A 73-year-old woman from Sleepy Eye was backing up on County Road 29 after missing the turn for County Road 8, according the Minnesota State Patrol.

A vehicle traveling in the same direction by an 82-year-old woman from New Ulm struck the vehicle backing up from behind.

One woman, 76-year-old Joann Schroeder of Sleepy Eye, was a passenger in the car backing up. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Injuries to the drivers and other passengers have not been released.
