MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A heavily traveled thoroughfare in the Twin Cities will be closed this weekend.
Starting 10 p.m. on Friday, Interstate 494 will close in both directions between Highway 77 (Cedar Avenue) and Interstate 35W in the area of Richfield and Bloomington.
MnDOT said maintenance crews need to paint the 2nd Avenue pedestrian bridge. The project is expected to be done and I-494 will reopen by 12:01 a.m. Sunday.
During the closure detours will be posted directing motorists to use Highway 77, Highway 62 and I-35W.
In addition, the frontage roads to the north and south of I-494 will be closed between Lyndale and Portland Avenues. The frontage road, or West 78th Street, will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.
